Staff Picks: Bible Studies We’re Loving This Winter
The new year brings a sense of newness, and often a refreshed energy to develop or sharpen our Bible reading habits. There’s no better way to kick off this new season than with a new Bible study. But which will you choose?
We asked our team to provide some recommendations for studies we think are perfect for the New Year and Winter seasons. Check out these staff picks, perfect for solo study or with a group this winter!

Joshua: Be Strong and Courageous by Faith Eury Cho
Heading into any year, I always feel a sense of needing some sound encouragement for all that I do not yet know is ahead of me. This study from Faith Eury Cho teaches you how to trust God (a big one for we who like to control the unknowns) and just how trustworthy God is. I thought I knew the story of Joshua pretty well, but I learned so many details about Joshua’s life and connections to my own life experience. I came away not only biblically grounded, but sure that my strength and courage come first from the Lord and living them out is a simple act of obedience. I never realized Joshua was at all insecure like me, but God told him to be strong and courageous … and everything changed when he listened, trusted, and obeyed.

The GREAT Morning Revolution by Tara Beth Leach
The new year is the perfect time to get back into Bible study, and it’s also the perfect time to build a new habit! I’m definitely not a morning person (find me in my prime after 10 am and a cup of coffee!), and I’ve struggled to find a prayer habit that doesn’t make me feel guilty in the morning if I fail. Tara Beth Leach has been there too, and you’ll love how practical her GREAT acronym is as you transform your morning routine and learn how to show up in God’s presence, sleepy eyes and all.

Meant for Good by Megan Fate Marshman
This study is for those struggling to see God’s plan for their lives. Megan takes you through Jeremiah 29: 11-14 to help you see how His plans for you even when they don’t seem like it– are meant for good. It’s a study that helps you start a new year with profound hope.

The God You Need to Know by Margaret Feinberg
This is a video Bible study about the Holy Spirit. Margaret approaches a topic many of us have questions about in the most Margaret way possible – with lots of scripture and super-relatable and inspiring stories. Not only does she teach on the Holy Spirit in the whole Bible (yes, Old Testament included), but she also provides 12 practices to help you grow in your relationship with Holy Spirit. The videos are beautiful and the study guide has fun extras like coloring pages.

Hebrews: Living a Long Faithfulness by Scot McKnight
My pick for a winter study is the final guide in the outstanding 16-volume Everyday Bible Study series from Dr. Scot McKnight. If you’ve ever wondered how to make sense of the Book of Hebrews and what it says to us today, pick up this Bible study and see what it means to follow Jesus every day of the year in what Scot calls “living a long faithfulness.” Dr. McKnight explores Hebrews with you by sharing the insights of a scholar with the heart of a pastor.
